Luis A. Pineda has a PhD by the University of Edinburgh in the Centre for Cognitive Science (1986-1989) where he was also an associate researcher (1989-1992). He worked at Instituto de Investigaciones Eléctricas (1983-1986 and 1992-1998) and since then he has been a Titular Investigator at Instituto de Investigaciones en Matemáticas Aplicadas y en Sistemas (IIMAS) at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, where he was the Head of Computer Science in two occasions (1998-2002 and 2005-2009). He has lectured and/or published in computer graphics, programming languages, computability and logic, automata theory and formal languages, computational linguistics, artificial intelligence, diagrammatic reasoning and service robots. He is the founder and coordinator of the Golem Group for the development of service robots which has participated in several international RoboCup@Home competitions since 2010. He was the founder president of Academia Mexicana de Computación.
